What you need to know about travelling from Ireland

Below is a handy guide to everything you need to know to travel with confidence. During these times, we especially recommend customers take out appropriate travel insurance for their holiday bookings.

International travel system overview

The Irish government applies measures to manage the risk of importing Covid-19 into Ireland. These may include the completion of a passenger locator form, proof of Covid-19 vaccination status, a negative Covid-19 test result prior to return, or placing higher risk countries on the 'scheduled State' list.

Most of the main tourist centres around the world have established specific policies for safe tourist entry and use of amenities within that country. A common requirement for entry is a negative PCR test result and proof of vaccination status - often being fully vaccinated means fewer test and isolation requirements.

Also, note that some countries require children to show proof of vaccination status, too.

Entry to a holiday destination

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is an Irish government agency, which produces regularly updated travel advice on Covid-19 and other risks that you may face if you travel abroad. They assess the risks involved in travel to a destination, and produce an assessment that typically results in advice against all but essential travel (i.e. no holiday travel) or not.

Where the FDA advise against all but essential travel, it is recommended that travellers review whether they still need to travel to that destination. Please note your travel insurance may be largely invalidated if travelling against FDA advice.

Use the DFA's tool to check the rules of entry for your destinaion.

Measures for entering Ireland

As of Sunday 6 March 2022, travellers to Ireland are no longer required to show proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or a negative PCR test result upon arrival.

There are no post-arrival testing or quarantine requirements for travellers to Ireland. Nor are travellers required to complete a Passenger locator form.

Any individual that develops COVID-19 symptoms while in Ireland should follow the HSE guidance in relation to isolation and undertaking antigen or PCR testing as appropriate.
